This is Dan Perry, one of the proud new owners of this wonderful company – Toto Tours. I will be hosting, with my husband and co-owner Michael, the very first tour offered under our new management, and this one is personal to me. In 1897, a man named Antonio Jacinto Pereira sailed from the island of São Miguel, Azores to follow the American Dream. That man was my great-grandfather and, more than a century later, I’m making my first trek with Toto Tours back to my roots. Returning to these islands feels like walking back into a story my family started generations ago. For many travelers, the Azores are a dream destination, but for me, they’re home. The Azores feel like a place the world hasn’t discovered yet. Each island has its own personality, from volcanic lakes and steaming springs to crater-rim villages and endless hydrangea fields. It’s a destination where you can hike in the morning, whale-watch in the afternoon, and unwind over fresh seafood and local wine at night.
