What to Bring for Egypt
Prepared, comfortable, and ready for awe
Egypt is one of the most extraordinary destinations in the world, and traveling there well is all about thoughtful preparation. This is a land of vast history, grand scale, and intense beauty, and when you pack smartly, the experience feels inspiring rather than overwhelming.
Expect warm days and cooler evenings. Daytime temperatures are typically in the 70s to mid-80s, with low humidity, while early mornings and nights—especially on the Nile—can feel surprisingly cool. Light layers are essential. Breathable fabrics like cotton or technical travel materials work best, and long sleeves are invaluable for sun protection as well as cultural comfort.
Comfortable walking shoes are critical. You’ll be exploring temples, tombs, and archaeological sites with uneven stone surfaces, steps, and sand. Shoes should be supportive, closed-toe, and already broken in. A second pair for evenings or river cruising is useful but keep it simple.
