Kotor, Montenegro
Depart this morning for an overnight tour to Montenegro, considered
by many to be the Pearl of the Adriatic. We drive along the dramatic
coast to the gorgeous Bay of Kotor. In 1979, the Bay of Kotor, the
City of Kotor and surrounding territory were named a World Heritage
Site by UNESCO.
In the Middle Ages, this natural harbour on the Adriatic
coast in Montenegro was an important artistic and commercial centre with its
own famous schools of masonry and iconography. A large number of the monuments
(including four Romanesque churches and the town walls) were seriously damaged
by the 1979 earthquake but the town has been restored, largely with UNESCO’s
help. Our guided tour includes visits to the Orthodox Cathedral and St. Tryphon’s
Cathedral. Overnight in Kotor. (Breakfast included)
