South Pacific
Winter Getaway to Fiji
February 3 – 11, 2007
SUN, SAND & SURF
Fiji is an exotic destination where you can swim with huge, harmless
manta rays congregating by the shore and snorkel over giant rainbow
gardens of colorful coral. It is a place where you can float in the
calm, quiet waters of a turquoise lagoon at sunset or walk alone on
a completely deserted beach.
Here the sun shines almost every day.
When it does rain, people rush outside for a soaking in the warm downpour
of a tropical shower which ends as quickly as it began. Life in Fiji
is lived for the joy of it all. Rushing is rude here, and the name of
a new friend is never forgotten. Fiji is where people wear flowers tucked
in their hair not to impress visitors, but because they like it.
The Fiji archipelago is at the cross roads
of the South Pacific. In the days of sailing ships it was known as the
“Cannibal Isles” and carefully avoided by mariners because
of its fierce warriors and treacherous shore approaches requiring navigation
through coral reefs. In the age of global air travel, however, Fiji
has become a central hub of the South Pacific, with more than 90 flights
landing at Nadi on the main island of Viti Levu every week. From there
it is a short hop to most of the 333 islands that make up this country.
When February rolls around, winter will
have just found its grip on most of the United States, and many more
weeks of frigid weather will lie in store. This exciting winter getaway
gives you the chance to escape and luxuriate in the balmy weather that
is one of Fiji’s main attractions. With round-trip airfare from
Los Angeles, your hotel room, breakfasts, and welcome and farewell dinners,
Toto Tours opens the door for boundless fun in the sun.

A La Carte Days
In keeping with the idea of this as a carefree winter getaway, we
have intentionally not filled up the days with planned tours or activities.
Spend your day, every day, just the way you want to spend it.
Our Resort offers a wide range of things to
do for fun. Each day the staff will post notice of the day’s free
activities, which might include anything from games, a rainforest walk,
or some beachside activity. In addition, there’s golf, tennis,
massage services, the fitness center, or simply relaxing by the pool
and sipping a tropical cocktail.
There are also many optional activities that
have an additional cost. They include:
- Traditional Firewalking Ceremonies in the Resort’s Arena
- Glass Bottom Boat Trips
- Sunset Cruise
- Scuba Diving
- Tours booked through the Tour Desk
- Deep Sea Fishing Excursions
- Golf
- Cave Tours
- Waterfall Tours

Click on each of the following links to see just a few examples of
the many tours offered through the Resort’s Tour Desk:
Diveaway Fiji, the Resort’s on-site
PADI dive center, offers a range of diving to suit everyone from experienced
divers to complete beginners. All the dive sites are very close (the
furthest a mere 10 minutes boat ride away), so you can choose to do
one or two dives and be back for lunch. The great tropical diving includes
walls, passages, swimthroughs, soft and hard corals, fans and caves.
Marine life is abundant and varied - Fiji has
one of the largest ranges of tropical fish anywhere in the world, and
sightings of turtles, rays and reef sharks are regular occurrences.
For beginners, there is a free scuba lesson in the pool daily, where
you are given enough training and skills to be able to go on a sea dive
under the direct supervision of a PADI dive instructor. This 'Discover
Scuba Dive' also counts towards your certification course.
Your Toto Tours host will coordinate activities
each day for those who would like to go touring together, and every
evening we’ll gather for sunset cocktails to socialize and share
stories about the day’s adventures, and plan activities for the
following day. These will all be memorable days in our South Pacific
Paridise. (Breakfast provided daily)

Farewell Dinner / Departure
We need to check out of our rooms by noon today. We recommend that
you check your luggage with the porter, and keep just a day bag with
you containing your swimming suit, a large zip-lock bag to pack it in
later, and the clothes you will wear later on the airplane. We can enjoy
use of the facilities at the Resort until our early Farewell Dinner.
Meet at the Resort’s restaurant at 4:30pm
for our Farewell Dinner. We’ll toast the highlights of our exciting
week in Paradise, then head off to the airport. We board Air Pacific
Flight # 810 which departs Nadi at 10:50pm. The joy of crossing the
international date line is that you will arrive in Los Angeles (at LAX)
before you left Nadi—at 1:05pm the same day! Be sure to allow
plenty of time for clearing customs and re-checking baggage before booking
onward flights (flights departing at 4:00pm or later should be fine).
