GREAT WATER

It would be a shame to come all the way to South America and not see one of the world’s natural wonders: Iguaçu Falls. UNESCO named this place a World Heritage Site in 1986, and there are very few places on earth with which to compare it.
This magnificent array of waterfalls is located in Southern Brasil in the state of Parana on the border between Argentina and Brasil. They stretch for 2.5 miles plunging 269 feet (82m) into the Iguaçu River. Numerous rocky and wooded islands on the edge of the escarpment over which the Iguaçu River plunges divide the falls into some 275 separate waterfalls or cataracts. The name of the falls comes from the Guarani Indian word meaning “great water.”

Argentine Side of Falls / On to Buenos Aires

This morning we cross into Argentina to see the Falls from an entirely different perspective. Here a open-air train system takes visitors to the various lookout points along the entire length of the waterfalls. At these stops a network of catwalks has been constructed, enabling you to walk along some absolutely breathtaking precipices with astonishing views. Prepare to get very wet from the spray as we peer into the Garganta do Diablo (Devil’s Throat).
We transfer to the airport in time to grab a bite to eat before our flight to Buenos Aires, departing at 5:00pm and arriving at 6:50pm. Upon arrival we are met at the airport and transfered to our hotel. We will have just enough time to check in and then join the main group for the Welcome Dinner.      (Breakfast / Dinner)
